I absolutely love reading and wish I had a little more me time to get some more books read. My TBR is huge and I am actually addicted to buying books. I have read a fair few books so far this year so thought that you would love to read ‘What I’ve read so far this year”, these are some of my favourite blog posts to read personally so I hope you find some new books to read.

The binding by bridget collins

The Binding has become one of my all time favourite reads. So unexpected and well written. If I had the time this would have been a one sitting read. I was excited each evening to go to bed and read this and that really shows how much I loved it. I’m really awful at explaining books and not giving anything away so I will leave the amazon link so you can have a little read and buy it. Honestly you need to buy it.

the last human by zack jordan

The Last Human (which is currently 99p on kindle) was a lovely gift from a book club I am part of and I loved it. A little sci-fi fantasy with a twist. About the last human, obvs, living in space and having to hide their identity because humans are the most dangerous species. Really well written and held my attention throughout. Loved it.

the flatshare by beth o’leary

The Flatshare has to be one of my all time favourite books ever. A super easy romantic girly feel good book. The kind of book you would read on a weekend away in a cabin with a roaring fire (a girl can dream). Its such a happy feel good book that I had a real warm fuzzy feeling after I’d read it and wanted to re-read it again straight away. I can imagine I’ll be rereading this soon. The flat share is about a woman who can’t afford a decent flat after her and her boyfriend split up but comes across a strange ad to flat share; but this isn’t just a flat share its a bed share too.

the deathless girls by kiran millwood hargrave

The Deathless girls was an unexpected read. I knew what was going to happen as it is based on Draculas brides; but it is so well written and interesting that I didn’t mind. Dark and interesting with a few twists, I really enjoyed this book.

the midnight lie by marie rutkoski

The Midnight Lie was so fun to read, I loved delving into the world and all the magical-ness of it. This is going to have a sequel and it was kind of obvious as the book didn’t answer all your questions at the end and left you wanting more. I really enjoyed this book too. I love Fantasy and this ticked all the boxes for me. It follow a young orphan girl taken in by a mother figure in a world full of magic that she’s not allowed to see. She is seen as poor and poor people are not allowed to have anything good. A must read.

dear edward by ann napolitano

Dear Edward was the first book for my joint book club venture with Rachael. Rachael and I started the book club TheMummyBookClub and kicked off our first book of the month with Dead Edward. Its a story about a young boy that goes on a flight with his family and then the plane crashes. Edward is the only survivor and it follows his life after the crash and how he deals with grief. So well written and beautifully sad.

after the end by clare mackintosh

After the End was the second MummyBookClub book and the saddest book I think I have ever read. As a mum this really hit hard; it had me sobbing uncontrollably at times, it really really hit me hard. It’s about the unthinkable terror of your child having cancer and the impossible choice of continuing treatment to prolong life or palliative care. Honestly heartbreaking but such a good read to make you truly appreciate life. So well written and I loved the switching of characters each chapter. Just a heartbreaking read.

And those are all the books I have read so far this year. There was another book that I started in June but have not yet finished so I will save that for later on in the year. I am hopping to read more throughout the second half of this year. We already have a few books lined up and we have just announced July’s book of the month. I purchased The Binding a few weeks ago but haven’t started it yet, I have finished The Flatshare though and loved it! It was a lovely light-hearted read during the lockdown which is what I needed.

I seriously need to get back into reading. I go through stages where I read constantly and then don’t pick a book up for 8 months or so haha. Thank you for the recommendations! I love the sound of The Midnight Lie, might give it a read! x

The flatshare has to be one of the best books which I read last year. I just could not put it down I needed to know what was going to happen. For sure, I agree it would have been a perfect book to read in a log cabin or a beach we can all dream still right
