THE BOOKS I RECOMMEND TO EVERYONE

30th March 2020 14 Comments

I am an avid reader, I would read daily if I could, but there’s not a whole lot of spare time in my life as a mum, business owner, blogger, girlfriend and part time worker. But when I do read a book I take my time choosing them and will only pick up books that I really really want to read. Here are some of the books that I recommend to everyone. If you’d like to see my goodreads goal for the year you can find it here and you can add me as a friend on goodreads here.

Snow Flower and the secret fan by lisa see

One of my all time favourite ever books. Based upon the feet bindings of China and following the lives of the women that lived in these times. Horrific. Beautiful. Captivating. I’ve read this at least 5 times in the past couple of years and I just absolutely love it.

remember me by sophie kinsella

Sophie Kinsella is one of my favourite authors and Remember Me is my favourite book by her; it’s so easy to read and has such a beautiful story. Lexi wakes up in hospital to find that her appearance is completely different to what she remembered and she’s missing a huge chunk of time. It really makes you think about if you got everything you ever wanted would you actually be happy? A really great read.

alone (the girl in the box 1) by robert j. crane

The first book in a fantastic series of books called The Girl in the Box (there are 10 books and then another sequel of currently 23 books). This is one of my favourite series of books to read and I read through them so fast. I am getting cravings to read them again they are that good. Its based around a girl name Sienna who has been kept in her house her entire life. She is not allowed to leave the house and has to remain fully dressed and covered head to toe at all times. One day her mum goes out to work and doesn’t return. That night 2 men appear in her home and she has to flee. A really really great read.

the last human by zack jordan*

If you follow me on Instagram, @katieflossblog, you may have seen me reading this recently. I was very kindly gifted this book pre release but it has now been released and it is incredible. I’ve never read anything like this and it has been so captivating and fun to read. I feel like I’ve also learnt things from this book. A definite read.

this is going to hurt:secret diaries of a junior doctor by adam kay

If you haven’t heard of this book then where have you been? In the UK our healthcare system is called the NHS and is free at point of contact for everyone. This is a literal diary written by a junior doctor highlighting the difficulties from within the NHS. An absolute must read. I had the highest form of respect for anyone working within the NHS before this and after reading this I think they are all gods. Oh but don’t read if your pregnant or due to undergo surgery soon. I’ve warned you.

the binding by bridget collins

This is a recent read but its made it to my list of books I recommend to everyone because it was so damn good. As an avid reader I can usually guess exactly where something is going to take me but I was genuinely shocked at some of the turns in this book. I couldn’t put it down and it’s the kind of book that keeps popping into my memories and I already want to reread it.

And that is my list of books that I recommend to everyone; I had to stop here otherwise this would honestly be pages and pages and pages long. I have tons of books on my TBR but I would love it if you would leave me just one of your favourite books below.

I am in the same situation, love to read (and need to) but I’ve been so busy lately I just haven’t found much spare time. I have now started reading Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, which was on my book club reading list a few years ago and been gathering dust on my bookshelf. I’m hoping to read more books from my TBR pile while we are in lockdown.

I’ve only read This is Going to Hurt, but I loved it! So funny, shocking and all kinds of other emotions. Will be putting the others on my list to read though!

I love reading book recommendations! It’s so interesting how they are all so different! Right now I’m recommending Flatshare since so many people are looking for light reads. Thanks for the list!

This sounds like a brilliant list of books, thank you for the recommendations Katie! I’ve heard so many good things about Adam Kay’s books, I must give them a read sometime. The Binding sounds great too, especially as it’s so unpredictable, it sounds like a real page-turner. I’m always looking for new books to read, so really enjoyed this post! <3 xx

I LOVE Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. It was so full of pain and love and lost hope, and the horrors that young women endured. Also by Lisa See, I loved Shanghai Girls.

That’s a really interesting list. I think This is Going to Hurt sounded like it would be really good. I’m in the US and have not heard of this book. Thank you for sharing your ideas. I recently joined a book club and we have been looking for books to add to our reading list.
