OUR FAVOURITE TODDLER BOOKS TO READ

As you all know I am a huge book nerd and I’m super pleased to say that Elara is too. Elara is currently 19 months old and here is a list of our favourite toddler books to read. We allow her to read the hard style books herself but she is not allowed near the normal paper books unattended because she can be a monster and tear the pages. Elara has the smallest bedroom in our 3 bed semi, the middle room is a games room as me and Mike are gamers. We are hoping to move this year to a bigger home but Elaras room is currently the perfect size for her. We have read to Elara daily since she was in my tummy and we have found it completely relaxes her and definitely helps with her imagination and communication.

This is Elaras little reading corner. This photo is a little deceptive but the corner you see is smaller than it appears. We could squeeze a chair in there but then she wouldn’t have as much floor space and it would hinder getting into her wardrobe which is opposite this. We decided to get a big fluffy blanket and a pillow and just create a little cosy corner for cuddles and reading in the evening before bed. Elara loves to settle down each evening with a book and just like mummy’s collection Elaras book stash is huge.

Elara loves mummy this much*

I was recently gifted 2 books from Wonderbly for Elara and I got so excited. Elara is such an unusual name we will never find personalised items in any shop so online places that personalise things have become a favourite of mine. Wonderbly personalises the little characters within the book and your childs name will be written throughout. We have received the Mummy and Daddy books and we love them. Elara loves seeing her name written down.

thats not my books

Elara is absolutely obsessed with the “Thats not my” books and Mummy is obsessed with collecting them. Elara loves animals and we have had to pick up all her favourite animal ones. Her current favourite one is the hedgehog version. I hadn’t even heard of these before I had Elara but everyone is obsessed with them. They are touchy feely books with lots of different textures. There is a little mouse on each page too that Elara discovered and she loves to give him a tickle on every page. She is just the sweetest.

The dinosaur that pooped books

We love these books. Elara received these for her first ever Christmas from her lovely Auntie and we love them. They are so fun and well written. These are the kind of books that Elara isn’t allowed unless we are with her. I think our favourite one out of these is The Dinosaur that pooped a Princess. They are so fun and really colourful. They are technically for older children as the stories are quite long but Elara will usually sit and listen for the entire book.

Giraffes Can’t dance is a recent addition to Elaras stash and she is obsessed. She brings this over to me every time I tell her its book time and we read it at least twice a day. Its such a cute little story. Elara loves pointing out the animals and making the noises they make. Oscar the Hungry Unicorn was a cute one I found whilst food shopping and couldn’t resist; he’s a chunky unicorn. Whats not to love? And the Wonky Donkey is pretty famous after a video of a Scottish woman reading it went viral. Absolutely hilarious book and it still makes me laugh every time. Sometimes I hear Mike reading it to Elara and I am in tears laughing.

Theres a Dragon in your Book is a gorgeous interactive book. You blow out the flames and flap the book to help the dragon to fly. Very cute and Elara loves helping the baby dragon. This other book isn’t really a reading book but it is Elara’s First Atlas. I love to travel and love learning about the world so we love looking through this and just talking to Elara about different places. Showing her where we have travelled to and such. It has fun little illustrations and lots of cute facts.

I hope you have enjoyed reading about our favourite toddler books to read. We have a hell of a lot more than this and in a month or so Elara will have some new favourites too. I would love to know what your favourite toddler books are. If you would like to check out my favourite books you can read this post here. You can find even more recommendations here.

Some of our favourites are definitely in there, I love reading to Emilia and I love how she will often sit and read to herself as well. Her current favourites are Room on the Broom and Oi Cat. She loves all the Julia Donaldson books xx

I actually have a few of these books at home because my mom is a nursery nurse. They must be good if you both love them!
