Teething can be an absolute nightmare; Elara has always suffered when her teeth are cutting and we have tried so many things to help her out. Here are the best teething toys and products for babies I have come across. Some worked and some didn’t and I feel like we now have a good idea of what can potentially help your little one. I have only included the ones that actually worked for Elara. Please bare in mind that all babies, like adults, are different and what has helped Elara may not help your little one. Elara first started having little teething niggles at around 6 weeks old; I took her to the doctors as I was concerned as she was super dribbly and unsettled and that’s when the doctor told me that in fact she was teething. I didn’t think it was possible and there wasn’t much we could use with her being so young. We couldn’t use any of the teething gels or powders and obviously she was too little to chew so I googled to my hearts content and came across the power of Amber Anklets.

Baltic Amber beads are said to contain a natural analgesic which when combined with the heat of your baby skin releases into the skin to help with the pain. It was our only option so I purchased this anklet and honestly it seemed to work for Elara. She wore it constantly up until around 10 months when we caught it and it snapped (all the beads are tied individually so they don’t go everywhere don’t worry); we didn’t repurchase right away and we noticed Elara was a lot more upset when her teeth were cutting so we repurchased and she’s been fab ever since.

When Elara started to chew things we started using the Nuby teething mitt, she still couldn’t really hold things but the teething mitt wraps around their hand so as long as your baby can reach for their mouth they can use it. Elara loved it. We moved onto the Hippo Teether, Sophie the Giraffe and the Nuby keys that can be popped into the fridge; depending on what mood Elara was in she would have one of these with her at all times. At 3 months old we could start using the different gels and powders available.

Best teething products

Our favourites have been Dentinox, Anbesol and the Ashton and Parsons Teething powders. Sometimes we would use everything in our arsenal because Elara would be struggling. It really is horrible seeing them in pain with their teeth but luckily for us the pain and chewing were the only symptoms of Elara’s teething. Lots of her little friends have had sore bottoms while teething and some haven’t batted an eyelid.

Elaras molars are now cutting and we can get away with just her wearing the Anklets constantly and calpol at bedtime to help her sleep if she is particularly struggling. We still use all of the teething toys but her favourite at the moment is definitely the Nuby keys that are always cold from the fridge. She can get these to the back of her mouth and the cooled keys seem to help calm her gums. How have your babies been when teething?
