Hormonal Acne is no joke; it can knock your confidence and make you feel really crappy about your appearance. Up until this year I was incredibly lucky with my skin; then I came off the contraceptive pill and bam!! acne galore. It really caught me off guard at how bad it made me feel. I had always naively thought that skin is skin and who cares about a few spots? Thats clear skin Katie talking; and acne prone Katie disagrees. It was incredibly hard to deal with; especially as I didn’t know how to deal with it and done everything in my power to stop it. I tried all of the typical squeezing, popping, scrubbing and the rest; which I now know is everything you should not do to your skin.

It took me a while to find something that helped for me and I wanted to help your guys’ recovery from acne go a little quicker. I searched high and low for information on hormonal acne and the Queen of Skincare herself Caroline Hirons had the best information I could find. Caroline and Dr Sam, a skincare consultant, made a video talking about skincare and hormonal acne, you can find it here. They mentioned a few products that could work for you and if they didn’t then you may need to see a dermatologist and get a prescription for medication. Medication is always the last resort guys. Azelaic Acid is also a fab way to help combat acne prone skin, you can find out how to fit it into your routine here

The products I chose to try are pictured above. My morning routine went as such:

Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser – link
La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo serum – link
LRP Effaclar H moistursier – link

My evening routine was also super simple with:

Bioderma (to remove majority of make-up)
Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser for a double cleanse
LRP Redermic R (this is the Retinoid)
LRP Effaclar H mosituriser

Both super simple and super effective. Four products that continue to keep my acne at bay. When using the routines above I always used a clean face cloth each morning, you can use the same one again for evening, which gave enough of an exfoliation for my skin. It took around a week for my skin to completely clear up the first time and I did get a few occasional small breakouts whilst using the products during my period and other stressful times. After 2 months of continued use I started introducing other skincare products to my routine and thankfully have managed to keep my skin clear and happy.

I still get the occasional breakout, usually when I have been lazy with my skin and not taken makeup off the night before or not double cleansed in the evenings, but overall my skin has been clear since I discovered these products. This is not a sponsered post and I purchased all of these products myself. They will not break the bank but they will make the biggest difference to your skin. I really hope they work for you too. I was considering on uploading a before and after photo but right now I’m just not brave enough.

I would love to know if you try these products and if they work for you. Please tag me in any posts. Good luck on your clear skin journey,

Katie x

I'm loving Cetaphil at the moment and its working wonders but need other products to work just as well. Will have to try the others you mentioned from La Roche-Posay because I love the duo!
