Hormonal Acne is no joke; it can knock your confidence and make you feel really crappy about your appearance. Up until this year I was incredibly lucky with my skin; then I came off the contraceptive pill and bam!! acne galore. It really caught me off guard at how bad it made me feel. I had always naively thought that skin is skin and who cares about a few spots? Thats clear skin Katie talking; and acne prone Katie disagrees. It was incredibly hard to deal with; especially as I didn't know how to deal with it and done everything in my power to stop it. I tried all of the typical squeezing, popping, scrubbing and the rest; which I now know is everything you should not do to your skin.

It took me a while to find something that helped for me and I wanted to help your guys' recovery from acne go a little quicker. I searched high and low for information on hormonal acne and the Queen of Skincare herself Caroline Hirons had the best information I could find. Caroline and Dr Sam, a skincare consultant, made a video talking about skincare and hormonal acne, you can find it here. They mentioned a few products that could work for you and if they didn't then you may need to see a dermatologist and get a prescription for medication. Medication is always the last resort guys.

The products I chose to try are pictured above. My morning routine went as such:

Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser - link
La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo serum - link
LRP Effaclar H moistursier - link

My evening routine was also super simple with:

Bioderma (to remove majority of make-up)
Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser for a double cleanse
LRP Redermic R (this is the Retinoid) - link
LRP Effaclar H mosituriser

Both super simple and super effective. Four products that continue to keep my acne at bay. When using the routines above I always used a clean face cloth each morning, you can use the same one again for evening, which gave enough of an exfoliation for my skin. It took around a week for my skin to completely clear up the first time and I did get a few occasional small breakouts whilst using the products during my period and other stressful times. After 2 months of continued use I started introducing other skincare products to my routine and thankfully have managed to keep my skin clear and happy.

I still get the occasional breakout, usually when I have been lazy with my skin and not taken makeup off the night before or not double cleansed in the evenings, but overall my skin has been clear since I discovered these products. This is not a sponsered post and I purchased all of these products myself. They will not break the bank but they will make the biggest difference to your skin. I really hope they work for you too. I was considering on uploading a before and after photo but right now I'm just not brave enough.

I would love to know if you try these products and if they work for you. Please tag me in any posts. Good luck on your clear skin journey,

Lush Halloween Collection 2016

It's almost Halloween, which means Lush Halloween Collection time!! Lush know how to make an impact when it comes to Holidays, I have just attended not one but TWO amazing Lush Christmas events (and OMG wait for those posts!!!!) so thought it was about time I talked to you about the cuteness overload that is the Halloween collection. I am so excited to show you the Halloween goodies but even more excited to actually use these products, #BloggerProblems; seriously I have been saving these cuties for you guys. Just look at how cute they are.

I was really surprised at just how many pieces Lush have created for this Halloween, and I absolutely love it. Lets start with the cute little Pumpkin bath bomb (the pumpkin with a face) he, I'm calling him Jack, smells like a pumpkin pie; or more like what you dream a pumpkin pie would smell like, vanilla, spice and biscuit. Beautiful. Next we have the Sparkly Pumpkin, an orange bath turning, glittery beautiful fruit scented zesty bubble bar, a solid bubble bath fyi. I love a bit of glitter in the bath, and you can feel good knowing that Lush use plastic free glitter, saving the Earth one bath at a time.

I also picked up the Magic Wand soap as it smelt so beautiful I couldn't leave it there. I can't really put my finger on the scent, fresh and fruity, lingers on the skin and I can't get enough of it. I wish this was a year round scent. Whats that little fairy I hear you say, well that would be Goth Fairy, a pearlescent shimmer bar. A soap like substance that you run over your skin to leave it smooth, beautifully scented and shimmering. Everyone needs a little shimmer in their lives right?! The big pink one with an eye? Thats Monsters Ball, a moisturising, colourful, fruity, cute but scary bath bomb. I think he may be my favourite as I've seen a fair few videos of him dancing around in the bath leaving a swirl of pinks and blues, I am very excited to bathe in this.

And last but not least the cutest little bath melt named Boo, he is a little ghost shaped white bath melt with a spicy and calming scent that will be perfect for a bed time bath. Boo is filled with oils and butters that leave your skin soft and supple, and ready for bed. Another firm favourite of mine, he has been living on my bedroom night stand for these last couple of weeks as his little scent really calms and relaxes me ready for bed; plus, he's super cute.

What do you think of this years Halloween collection? If you want to have a looksy without leaving your house then you can check out the range here

Una Brennan Clay Mask

As mentioned in my previous post, I have been struggling a lot with hormonal acne lately and one of my favourite products to use when I have acne is the Super Facialist by Una Brennan Salicylic Acid Pore Purifying Clay Mask; wow thats a mouthful. Salicylic acid is great for acne prone skin and helps to fight blemishes and keep them at bay; cleansing deeply into the skin and purifying whilst removing any dirt that has built up in your pores. This is one of those masks that drys completely on the skin and you wipe off with a clean damp face cloth. It leaves my skin feeling clean and fresh, albeit a little red due to just how sensitive my skin is; even with my extremely sensitive skin this does not sting or aggravate it at all which is great.

I tend to use this around once a week when my skin is behaving and then around twice a week when I get a bit hormonal, you get me ladies? If I do get a blemish of any kind that is taking it's time to arrive then I will use this mask, just on the blemish, every night to help bring the impurities to the surface and help it on it's merry way. During my nightmare skin phase this has been used ALOT and there is still well over half a tube left. So although this is a little on the pricier side of the highstreet (but low side of the high end) you really do get your moneys worth. I am a complete advocate for looking after your skin and I will never promote a brand that I am not completely 100% happy with but the Super Facialist range has got me swooning. I love everything from the Cleansing Oil to the eye cream. If you haven't tried anything from the very affordable Una Brennan range I urge you to find something for you and try it.

What do you think of this clay mask? Do you want to give it a try?

Lush Lovely Jubblies

Yes that says what you think it says. Lovely Jubblies, a breast cream from Lush to keep your lady lumps firm, supple and high in the sky. This beautifully floral scented cream helps to keep your boobies firm and has helped me a lot with pesky stretch marks that I got from growing said boobies. I use this every night and sometimes in the morning if I remember and slather onto my best asset (or so I've been told) to keep them firm. Yes I am still young and I have small boobs (C/D cup) so they are still where they are meant to be and I am currently winning a battle with gravity but I know at some point they will start heading south; this is to help prevent that for as long as possible. I take Lovely Jubblies all over my boobies and up to my neck keeping everything moisturised and looking great.

Now I know helping to keep your boobs firm sounds incredible but doing this daily also ensures you are friendly with your boobs. Sadly Breast Cancer has touched my family; My grandmother (fathers mother) had breast cancer and luckily she caught it early enough to be able to beat it. Slathering on Lovely Jubblies every night has given me a little routine to have a good feel and check that my boobs are as they should be. I have linked a little video by Coppafeel here for you to check what you are looking for and to keep yourself safe. I am in no way afiiliated with Coppafeel I just want you all to know just how important it is to check your breasts often and to report anything to your doctor immediately.

I hope you stay safe and check you boobs often and pick up some Lovely Jubblies to keep your boobies looking and smelling great.
